Anders' Opinion On Schramm Vodka
A few months back I was reading an article on a locally crafted Vodka called Schramm
Vodka.
Schramm Vodka |
- Sweden's "Absolute Vodka", now owned by a French Company Pernod Ricard, and is made from potatoes
- Poland's Belvedere, which is made from rye
- Bermudian owned Grey Goose Vodka, made from wheat, and produced in France.
Schramm Vodka is made from organically grown potatoes that are grown in the Pemberton Valley by Across The Creek Organics.
Today, I finally found a liquor store that carries Schramm Vodka, and I'm willing to bet that it will not be long before it will be in every liquor store in BC.
The recipe for Schramm Vodka was created by Master Distiller, Tyler Schramm. Tyler studied a Masters of Science in Brewing and Distilling at Heriot - Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Master Distiller Tyler Schramm |
Focusing his thesis on the complex art and science of potato Vodka distillation with that one goal in mind.
He certainly succeeded. His Schramm Vodka is by far the best Votka that I have had the pleasure to enjoy.
The Schramm Vodka is brewed in small batches and is the only spirit in BC made from scratch. The Schramm Vodka is crafted following an all natural fermentation process without the use of chemicals, synthetic anti-foaming agents, or additives.... only the good stuff goes into this classic spirit.
In fact, the Schramm Family follows the traditional Scottish methods used in many fine Single Malt Scotch distilleries.
So what does this luxurious Vodka taste like? Well, there is a natural smokey sweetness that lingers on your pallet, the same way a good Single Malt Scotch does.
It is wonderful over ice or my preference, keep the bottle in the freezer and serve it on its own. In Sweden, we drink Vodka with herring, crab, cray-fish.... really any seafood (or anything else). I must say though, the Schramm Vodka should be savoured directly from the freezer in a frosted Martini Glass.
All I can say, just try it, you will love it, and don't forget to keep that extra bottle on hand. If you want to order some Schramm Vodka right away, you can do so right here.
Kiss the cook,
Anders
