Wine Review Gewürztraminer or Gewurztraminer

Vancouver Island Made Gewürztraminer

Cherry Point Estate Winery is located in Cobble Hill on Vancouver Island. Cherry Point was one of the first wineries on the Island. The winery was established by the founders Wayne and Helena Ullrich in 1990.

The main varieties and eight limited varieties are planted including Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, Pinot Noir, Agria, Ortega, Seigerrebe and Castel.

The 2008 Gewürztraminer is a nice crisp wine. "Gewürtz" means spice and this wine really comes through on that part, but still delicate with a floral and fruit bouquet. Medium to dry finish.

Gewürztraminer is one of the main grapes grown in the Alsace region of France.

My wife Liz and I traveled the Alsace region in May of 2008 and it is one of the things you should put on your bucket list if you have not done so.

This wine goes great with seafood like, BBQ'd oysters on the half shell, sauteed prawns and scallops in garlic.

Further I would drink it with BBQ'd chicken.

This is a wine worth buying, serve cold and crisp.

Kiss the cook,

Anders
